Annotations for All The Angels Live Demo

Lyric: And if you maybe find a better way to love me, then
 You are all to blame
Annotation:
I interpret this line as the patient’s lover regretting not loving him enough while he was alive and blaming themselves for his death.

Lyric: ’Cause all the angels say, “Ooh, ooh, you are all to blame”
Annotation:
the patient’s partner feels at blame for his death.

Lyric: And if you maybe figure it out
 Would you still explain?
And if she said she was sorry now
 Would you still complain?
Annotation:
This line appears to be referencing the MCR song “ You Know What They Do To Guys Like Us In Prison” that features lead singer of The Used, Bert McCracken, singing: I can’t explain, I can’t complain

Lyric: She went alone and went to the emergency
And parked her car in the dark
Annotation:
The Patient’s lover has been called to the hospital in order to see him one last time. The verse describes her arrival to the hospital. It’s the crack of night and she’s come to see the patient. However,as hinted in songs like ‘I Don’t Love You’,the love between them die out due to the Patient’s illness. So it’s been hinted that his lover is quite impatient and annoyed at having to come.

Lyric: And all the angels say, “Ooh, ooh, you are all to blame”
’Cause all the angels say, “Ooh, ooh, you are all to blame”
Annotation:
He is thinking of what the angels up in heaven would be thinking about the problems that are happening on earth. He imagines them saying that we are to blame for everything wrong that happens here (which is kind of true in a great number of ways).

Lyric: They got the call and picked him up at 4:00 AM
And tore off down the road
Annotation:
While it’s unclear who this line is mentioning, it can be assumed that the receiver of “the call” was the ER, from the patient who is dying. The EMTs then rushed to the patient’s house in the middle of the night and took him to the hospital in an attempt to save his life.

Lyric: She got the call, and then she threw her jacket on
And stormed off down the hall
Annotation:
This line is referring to the call you get from the police when an emergency occurs. In this case, the caller tells the song’s main character that her former lover, the Patient, is dying. It describes how after she hears what happened she quickly leaves the house to see her love before he dies.

Lyric: He only has but minutes more
 You might just say goodbye
Annotation:
While it may not be clear whether or not the patient dies in the story that is told by the original album, this line seems to indicate that (at least in this version) the patient dies. Here, the doctor is telling a girl, who is most likely the patients lover, that he is going to die.
